The environmental impact assessment reports of the HZMB HKLR and HZMB HKBCF projects have been submitted to Environmental Protection Department (EPD) for approval according to the "Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance" and EPD approved the environmental impact assessment report of the project on 23 October 2009 and issued the Environmental Permit on 4 November 2009.

HZMB-HKBCF International Design Ideas Competition was launched on 10 December 2009. The purposes of the Competition are to draw new design ideas globally and encourage public participation in the design of the new boundary crossing facilities. Registration and Submission of Entries will be closed on 8 February 2010 and 10 March 2010 respectively.

The commencement of ground investigation works for the HKBCF, which was officially launched on 10 December 2009, marks an important milestone for the HKBCF project. The works will provide essential geotechnical data for the detailed design of the HKBCF.
